Elk Island

Today we took a long, long car ride (mostly long because we got lost!) to Elk Island. Elk Island is located in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta...less than an hour from Edmonton. We were all excited to see a bit of the country and maybe some animals too!
We walked down the Living Waters trail which was part trail and part boardwalk around the lake.
Claire spent a lot of time on Daddy's shoulders today. She likes to steady herself by holding his ears!
The boardwalk...water is back in the distance.
Look what Claire found!
Okay, so the trip so far was just going okay. We were disappointed not to see anything more exciting, but figured that was because it was the middle of the afternoon (the animals are out more in the morning and evening). So, we packed up and drove back through the park.
Charlie and I decided to stop one more time to try and see some animals. Lo and behold, there were a few cars stopped. I couldn't believe my eyes! A herd of bison right in front of the car were going to pass right by us!
That's one big bison!
I got so excited I woke Claire up to show her...I might regret that soon. She never went back to sleep!
The bison herd going by. There were even two babies!
After that, we saw this cute guy too...
Golden Gopher
After all of that excitement we decided the trip was definitely a success!
